The 9th Camp Dad saw us returning to Burnbake Camp Site Studland Bay Dorset, this time with a slightly reduced, but still large party of 14 dads, 26 kids and a lone adventurous Frenchman!

To our intial disappointment, we were "allocated" the top field- the very exposed spot we had all scoffed at in previous years. However, the Gods were with us and we were treated to the best weather ever- baking hot temperatures of 30-32 degrees C with not a breath of wind.

The problem of where to watch England's World Cup quarter final was imaginatively sorted by a camping neighbour and we all mucked in to set up a projector and screen fed off a satellite dish! Shame about the result. Thank God for the Frenchman spreading a bit of joy watching Zidane & Co deliver a master class to the Brazilians.

Altogether a marvelous and relaxing weekend, despite a good quantity of the Dad Crew peaking too early on red wine on the Friday night..... star performance must go to Gary for "falling" (don't ask!), going to the shower at 0130, and returning to the camp fire for more.

Special thanks to "Chef Jeff" for tireless organisation and driving to Swange hospital to get Lulu's head cut stitched, John "Show Me The Money" Karakashan for ruthless financial practices, Fin "Mr Shifter" Hegarty for transporting all manner of equipment and kids, Martin "the Strummer" for serenading on Saturday night (where did he disappear to late into the night?), and a special mention to Dave "Performing Arts" Reeves for erecting some half a dozen tents for latecomers who had pre delivered their wares- hmmmmmmmm. Finally, thanks to the Mums for not swanning off to Amsterdam this year, but instead slavishly preparing a homecoming feast, and to The Evans' for providing the wonderful venue for the magnificent Heroes' Return.

Johan.
